Pennsylvania [Penn Central]
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (Penn Station)
July 20, 1973

The Pennsylvania's Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania station was located at the junction of the Pennsy's Fort Wayne and Panhandle lines (to Chicago and Indianapolis respectively) to form the main line between Pittsburgh and Harrisburg. The Fort Wayne line left the station on the north side, crossing several city streets on a curved viaduct before crossing the Allegheny River. The Panhandle line was on the south side of the station, here seen looking soutwest, and tunneled under part of the Golden Triangle to cross the Monongahela River before heading west to Indianapolis and St. Louis. At the time this was the route of Amtrak's notoriously delay-prone National Limited, almost 12 hours late on the date of this particular slide. Some of the Golden Triangle's skyscrapers can be seen in the background.
