New York Central [Penn Central]
Osgood, Pennsylvania
July 25, 1972

Osgood, Pennsylvania manages to cram a remarkable amount of railroading into a relatively small bit of real estate. In front of the camera is the New York Central's Oil City Branch from Jefferson, Ohio; the red interlocking signals protect a crossing at grade with the Erie (now Erie Lackawanna) main line. Overhead is the Bessemer & Lake Erie's Kremis-Osgood ("KO") Cutoff, while the bridge in the foreground spans the B&LE's original main line and the Shenango River. The photographer's bemused grandfather waits in the automobile at right.
