Norfolk Southern
Star, North Carolina
June 16, 1973

No, not that Norfolk Southern, but the real deal, which ran from Norfolk, Virginia to Charlotte, North Carolina and Beaufort, South Carolina. It was ultimately consumed by the Southern Railway in 1974 (eventually to become part of the second Norfolk Southern in 1982). Here is Baldwin-built AS416 no. 1607, seen near Star, North Carolina (east of Charlotte).
