Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe
Chicago, Illinois
July 28, 1971

This is probably the Texas Chief, based on the time and the Fs on the front (by this time the Super Chief was usually pulled by cowl units), heading into the Santa Fe's Chicago passenger equipment servicing facility. At left is the Illinois Central's Iowa Line; the Chicago & Western Indiana's Dearborn Station trackage is just out of sight at the far left. This train would have just come through the car washer, and looks it. The Texas Chief was later renamed the Lone Star by Amtrak in summer of 1974, at the same time the Super Chief was renamed the Southwest Chief. This view is looking north from West 18th Street.
