San Diego's rail station, the Santa Fe Depot, is located in downtown San Diego (Centre City) and today serves Amtrak, the state-run San Diego Coaster service, the San Diego Trolley and the municipal bus service, and is also known as San Diego Union Station. At one time it hosted trains of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe and the San Diego & Arizona Eastern railroads; it was purchased by the city of San Diego in 1974.
