Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe
Williams, Arizona (Williams Junction)
November 26, 1995

A westbound freight led by Santa Fe no. 557 and three more units in full "warbonnet" paint passes the camera at Williams Junction, just east of Williams, Arizona. In a little over a year the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe will be merged into the Burlington Northern Santa Fe and the warbonnets will begin giving way to orange and green "grasshoppers" and orange and yellow "war pumpkins," to use a few of the nicknames soon to be applied. Happily, many of the warbonnets will survive for many years, albeit with "BNSF" painted on their sides in place of the venerable "Santa Fe." Alas, the classic signal bridges will not be so fortunate.
