Pennsylvania [Penn Central]
Girard, Ohio
December 30, 1971

Looking west from the Liberty Street Bridge at Girard, Ohio reveals a westbound Penn Central train of empty hoppers on the former Pennsylvania's Erie & Ashtabula Branch; the Pennsy heritage of the now-green caboose is obvious. The rails on the far right belong to the Erie's Cleveland & Mahoning line, while the sunken rails in between are the Baltimore & Ohio's Lake Subdivision, preparing to dive below the Pennsylvania's tracks via a tunnel to connect with the B&O mainline at Ohio Junction. Ahead is the Mahoning River valley, followed by Niles and Warren.
