A closer look at Long Island Railroad M-1 car no. 9761 on the end of an outbound train at the Hewlett, Long Island station. The "fishbelly" cross section was necessary to meet platform clearances and still provide a bit of extra width in the seating area, something fans of the fabled Chicago, North Shore & Milwaukee's Electroliners will find familiar. Stainless steel construction was chosen for its resistance to corrosion.
