Erie [Erie Lackawanna]
Youngstown, Ohio
July 30, 1970

There's a lot of interest in this shot, looking east from the Gibson Avenue Bridge in Youngstown. At the far left are the New York Central tracks to Ashtabula (a continuation of the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie from the east). In the center is the Erie line from Himrod Junction, with a little-used Pennsylvania Railroad branch crossing to connect with the NYC. At the right and far right are the downtown freight branches of the Baltimore & Ohio and the Pennsylvania Railroad, apparently crossing without signal protection of any kind. And, speaking of signals, note the yellow tilt board signal protecting the crossing of the Pennsylvania and the Erie; the Youngstown area had a considerable number of these.
