Tunnel, New York (Belden Hill Tunnel)

Belden Hill Tunnel is located at the summit of the Delaware & Hudson's steep grade north out of Binghamton, New York, on its way to Albany. Later part of the Canadian Pacific, this line was sold to Norfolk Southern in late 2014 but still continues in operation. At the time of these photos the D&H was part of Dereco, the Norfolk & Western subsidiary which also controlled the Erie Lackawanna until its bankruptcy.

The photographer is looking west (southbound) towards Binghamton in this photo. This is, of course, one of those Pictures You Should Never Take, especially with anything other than absolute stop displaying on the signals…
