Union Station

Union Station
Chicago, Illinois (Union Station)
July 28, 1971

Ownership of Chicago Union Station was originally shared by the Pennsylvania, Chicago, Burlington & Quincy, Michigan Central (which dropped out of the deal), Chicago & Alton and Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific, although the heavy Pennsylvania Railroad influence is obvious in the position light signals lining the Roosevelt Road viaduct in the distance. Amtrak is now at the throttle, but its influence has not yet become obvious after only three months. In the far distance at center right the lift bridge over the Chicago River (South Branch) is visible, while the massive bascule bridges at center left used by the Baltimore & Ohio and St. Charles Air Line are impossible to miss.
