Pittsburg & Shawmut

Pittsburg & Shawmut
Brockway, Pennsylvania
July 26, 1972

Just south of Brockway, Pennsylvania, the Pittsburg & Shawmut crosses over US Highway 219 and the Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh's main (here hidden behind the underbrush at right and at this time controlled by the Baltimore & Ohio). The Pittsburg & Shawmut should not be confused with the legendary Pittsburg, Shawmut & Northern, which connected east of here with the P&S and ran north to a connection with the Erie at Swains and the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western at Wayland Junction; it languished in receivership for 42 years before finally being abandoned in 1947. The Pittsburg & Shawmut, on the other hand, is quite healthy and remains so today (2018).
