The signals for Youngstown's Valley Street (VY) interlocking were placed well before the actual crossing, partly to provide room for derails (and room to derail without fouling the crossing). Here looking south from the Oak Street bridge we see the Erie's relatively modern color-light signals (foreground) and the Central's by now antiquated semaphores. Not that we're complaining…
