New York Central

New York Central [Penn Central]
Cleveland, Ohio (Collinwood Yard)
March 26, 1971

At the west end of the New York Central's Cleveland, Ohio Collinwood Yard the Central split into three different lines: the lakefront line continued along the lakefront to cross the Cuyahoga River on a lift bridge; the Cleveland Short Line ascended a brief grade before crossing over the lakefront line and heading south, ultimately to run along the south border of Cleveland before crossing the former Big Four and rejoining the line to Chicago, and the Cleveland Union Terminal trackage which led to the terminal itself before continuing on to join the Big Four line to Linndale. In this view from a westbound Penn Central passenger train an eastbound freight is on the Short Line overhead bridge (recently repainted in Penn Central green) heading into Collinwood while another freight occupies the lakefront line.
