Illinois Central

Illinois Central [Illinois Central Gulf]
Chicago, Illinois (Twenty-First Street Crossing)
June 3, 1973

A westbound Illinois Central freight on the IC Iowa line is just clearing Twenty-First Street Crossing in this view looking south. The Pennsylvania's double-track line to Union Station is to the left of the Chicago & Western Indiana signal bridge (now bereft of signals), while in the foreground is the connecting track from the Pennsylvania to the shared Gulf, Mobile & Ohio/Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe line. By this time the IC and GM&O had merged to form Illinois Central Gulf, but the only evidence in this photo is the next-to-last boxcar.
