Grand Trunk Western
Blue Island, Illinois (Blue Island Crossing)
May 31, 1973

Blue Island Crossing is one of the more accessible (and busiest) of the Chicago area junctions. With a public highway passing right through the crossing, once can generally find a safe (non-tresspassing) location to shoot from, and the rail traffic is virtually unceasing. This freight (led by no. 5805 in the newer Grand Trunk Western colors of red and blue) is on rails connecting the GTW to the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific, and crossing Indiana Harbor Belt rails. The double tracks in the foreground are the GTW main.; the tracks in the far background are the IHB connector to the Rock Island.
