Union Pacific
Salt Lake City, Utah (Grant Tower)
August 20, 1998

Seen from the footbridge connecting the Union Pacific's Salt Lake City station with the area west of the tracks, a northbound freight off the former Los Angeles & Salt Lake is treading rails which years earlier hosted a DDA40X and DD35 in the same location. In a moment it will be entering former Oregon Short Line rails leading to Odgen; the dark roadbed to the right of the signal fence is the former location of the Denver & Rio Grande Western's Salt Lake City to Ogden line, abandoned in the mid-1990s. The south leg of the wye is visible in the right center of the slide; interestingly, this was owned by the OSL although the north leg was D&RGW property.
