Union Pacific
Ogden, Utah (Union Station)
September 1, 1996

The Utah State Route 53 (also known as 24th Street) bridge in Ogden, Utah provided an ideal vantage point for viewing both Union Station and the heavy through traffic through the area. Sadly, in another year the butterfly sheds below will no longer be used by passenger trains as Amtrak will discontinue the Pioneer in 1997, the last regularly scheduled passenger train to pass through Ogden. At the far right are the Union Pacific and Southern Pacific lines, which in a little over a year will be all Union Pacfic. The elevators at the far right rear mark the junction where the Union Pacific's line to Salt Lake and southern California diverges to the west via a wye, while the line to Weber Canyon and ultimately the east continues straight south there. This view looks south from the bridge.
