Northern Pacific [Montana Rail Link]
Montana (Bozeman Tunnel)
June 14, 2003

The current Bozeman Tunnel at the summit of Bozeman Pass, built by the Northern Pacific in 1945 and 3015 feet in length, is actually the second; the first (3652 feet long) entered service in 1884. Unlike the case of many retired tunnels (such as the Tennessee Pass Tunnel) this one has not been filled in or otherwise obliterated. Today this is Montana Rail Link trackage.
