One of the Long Island Rail Road's many Alco road-switchers is seen here preparing to couple onto an outgoing train. Much of the LIRR remains unelectrified and relies on diesel-hauled trains. The Pennsylvania heritage of the LIRR is evident in the position light signals used throughout the road.
