Ferrocarriles Nacionales de México
Puerto Peñasco, Mexico
5/30/1978

A brief trip to Puerto Peñasco, Mexico (also known in English as "Rocky Point"), located on the Gulf of California, unexpectedly yielded this Ferrocarriles Nacionales de México passenger train. It was only the construction of this rail line in the 1930s and 1940s that led to the development of a town here, which although located on the Gulf of California is still part of the very hot, very dry Sonora Desert.

It may amaze some of the younger generation to discover that there was actually a time when autofocus was not available on cameras, and one had to manually set (or guess) the distance to the subject being photographed. Unfortunately, when the opportunity came up to grab a sequence of shots it was all to easy to forget to check the camera's settings, as happened here and on the following two shots.
