Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe
Chicago, Illinois (Twenty-First Street Crossing)
June 3, 1973

Having crossed the Chicago River (South Branch) the Texas Chief has turned onto Gulf, Mobile & Ohio (former Alton) rails and will shortly cross over to the Santa Fe mainline, visible at the far left. The Pennsylvania (Penn Central) passenger line from Union Station crosses the picture from left to right, and the Chicago & Western Indiana curves across the foreground to reach Dearborn Station. The color position light signals on the GM&O are a holdover from the years when the Alton was owned by the Baltimore & Ohio.
